First soccer practice
Liam’s day got off to a rough start. He decided while waiting for the bus that he didn’t want to go to school. He went in the house and Jill had to work to persuade to come back out and get on the bus. As she was doing this the bus pulled up and Liam finally decided to get on. Once he got in his seat he was all smiles and was waving goodbye to Jill.
When he got home from school he was quite hungry. Jill made him lunch and he quickly ate. Once done Liam played a little and then laid down for a couple hour nap. When he woke up he was all excited and ready for soccer practice. He on wearing his Ireland soccer jersey he got from Grandma and Grandpa McCourt. I got home from work and Liam repeatedly asked me if he had soccer practice and if Mr. Carr was going to be his coach.
I had to help coach Seamus’ soccer practice so Jill watched Liam’s. When it was done Jill said Liam did pretty good. At times during some drills they were doing Liam said he was done and would walk to her. She would coax him into getting back into practice, or Mr. Carr would. Jill said she actually felt sad watching Liam out there with the other kids. She said you could just see a difference between Liam and his peers. She said the other kids that were the same age just seemed so much more alert to what was going on. She also noticed the difference in Liam’s leg strength. When he kicks the ball his leg is very limp. This is attributed to his low muscle tone and the fact the he is under sensitive. Hopefully soccer will help him with his leg strength. Liam’s first game is Saturday and we’ll see how he does. We are cautiously optimistic. All the chaos of people yelling, kids on the field, and the speed of the game, all make for a bad mix for Liam. We won’t know how he will do, but we hope for the best. He just may surprise us like he has before.
