Another bad day at school
Jill called me at work today to tell me Liam's day at school was off to a bad start. Liam's teacher called saying he was repeatedly crying and upset that he wanted mommy. Liam was repeating over and over to his teacher that she call his mommy. The teacher put Liam on the phone to talk to Jill and he could just whimper and cry "mommy" to her over the phone. His teacher then tried to have Liam join the class in an art project with jelly beans and paint. Liam ate the jelly beans with paint on them. His teacher said she would call if Liam's behavior persisted.
Liam had therapy with Mark this evening. Mark had one of the worst times with Liam tonight. Liam would go from one task to the next without properly completing them. He then persisted asking Jill to hold him. Mark told Liam no and he needed to picture (task). He then continued to cry for mommy. Mark said no. Liam got angry and threw his picture folder across the room. Mark made Liam sit still and choose a picture to do which Liam refused. Liam did sit down with Mark and do table activities, but they were done in a rushed manner. Liam's inattention caused his session to end 15 minutes earlier than expected.
Outside this evening was much the same. Liam kept going places he should not be going. He kept running into back yards where no parents were. He even went over a neighbors house where no one was and took their toys. I ran and had to bring him back with the rest of the kids. Liam made several attempts to go in the back yard of a neighbor's house but was stopped each time. While all the kids were playing, Liam left the yard and started walking home. I caught up to him, asked him what he was doing, and he wanted to go for a walk in the wagon. I took him and he wanted to go see our neighbor Frank. We were for maybe 5 minutes, and Liam took the wagon and started walking home. As I was catching up to him, he walked right out in the street, never looking. Luckily no cars were coming. These are every day dangers we face with Liam. He has no concept of what is going on around him and he just goes his way. While back at our neighbor's house, Liam again tied to each chalk, but Jill stopped him. Liam went to sleep tonight with no problem after taking anafranil and melatonin.
Thursday Liam sees his neurologist. We can only hope the big problem these past 2 weeks has been that he is not on the full medication routine yet. The 1/2 capsule anafranil's have done absolutely nothing for him. We will see tomorrow what the neurologist says. Right now, this is going to be one long summer if this is how he is going to be.
